Sidi Adventure and Motocross Boots

Sidi Adventure and Motocross Boots

With over 30 years of riding experience, I have tried nearly every motorcycle boot available on the market. Whether for practical use or as protective gear, I've relied on off-road motorcycle boots as the best way to safeguard my feet from serious injury, especially in my current role as an off-road adventure rider. For this reason, motocross (MX) boots are essential, and Sidi has consistently set the gold standard.  Since 2014, I have partnered with companies like BMW, KTM, and Klim, but my choice of footwear remains focused on Sidi boots. I value my health more than any business association; we are not affiliated with Sidi, and I purchase all my boots at retail.

Sidi motocross boots are nothing short of a dream! They are incredibly comfortable from day one and provide excellent protection against impacts from rocks, branches, or even a motorcycle dropping on your leg. They can be worn for long expeditions, and with a range of MX shocks, they can withstand almost any weather. The top-tier models, like the Crossfire, feature a twin hinge system at the ankle, allowing for flexibility while still being robust enough to protect your ankle in an accident. We’ve all heard horror stories of broken ankles caused by hard aluminum luggage, which further emphasizes the necessity of wearing MX boots. However, I have one significant issue with MX boots: they are not waterproof, or even water-resistant for that matter. If you can manage the wet conditions from water crossings, winter riding becomes nearly unbearable.

Understanding the concept of microclimates makes it clear that rider comfort—and thus ride quality—diminishes as soon as you get wet. This is where Gore-Tex gear comes into play, making adventure boots a sensible choice. I first encountered the Sidi Adventure boots at the EICMA show in Milan during a business meeting break, and this discovery truly transformed my motorcycle riding experience. Although they are not cheap, you quickly realize that you get what you pay for when you stand in a river or ride through heavy rain. With these boots, you gain outstanding performance.

Although they offer slightly less protection than an MX boot, they are perfectly suited for the needs of adventure travel.

The Sidi Adventure boots, in both versions, are designed with "premium" in mind. They are heavier but as comfortable as hiking boots, and they are nearly 100% waterproof up to their full height. They are breathable enough to wear in the summer with lighter socks and suitable for winter with heavier socks. They provide about 85% of the protection of an MX boot. Additionally, you can walk comfortably around a campsite or village and stay standing on the pegs all day like you would with MX boots. While I will keep my old motocross boots for technical enduro trails, I won’t be riding on adventure trips or tarmac without my Sidi Adventure boots.
