FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

There is no denying that Greece is truly blessed with majestic scenery and rich ancient history. Our climate is mild and there is minimal probation for riding off-road on amazing routes. Our carefully planned Adventure Tours connect the most important UNESCO archeological sites and picturesque villages with each other, giving emphasis on the riding experience, passing through the breathtaking scenery of long mountain ridges, national forest reserves, remote dragon lakes, and isolated hi-planes.

IS IT SAFE?

Greece is a member of the European Union and a well-known popular tourist destination. Furthermore, Greece is one of the safest countries concerning wild animals. Safety should not be a concern.

WHAT ABOUT LANGUAGE?

All tours include an English-speaking local guide, that will take care of everything. Also, English is widely spoken and people are friendly and eager to engage with you.

ARE THESE TOURS GOOD FOR COUPLES?

Absolutely. On-road Historical Tours can be ridden "two-up", with reasonable daily distances and a fun schedule of events and activities making this a fine riding holiday. Unfortunately, this is not an option for Off-road Adventure Tours.

HOW DO I BOOK A TOUR?

Just choose your favorite Motorcycle Tour and follow the "book now" instructions. If you want to book on different dates or opt for a tailored tour, simply contact us and we will answer all your questions.

HOW DIFFICULT IS RIDING ON YOUR TOURS?

All our routes are designed with the average rider in mind, so there are no single tracks and can be ridden on any adventure or dual-sport motorcycle. Many tracks are in remote areas and reach a high elevation where road maintenance is minimal if non-existent. You can expect to cover sections of the road with deep ruts, loose rocks, and other challenges. You may also encounter sections that have trees or branches over the road. If you are new to off-road riding but want to experience some mythical routes, we offer Off-Road Training so that you get ready for anything the road might bring your way.

WHAT MOTORCYCLE DO I RIDE?

All Motorcycle Tours include the rental of a motorcycle. For off-road tours, you will be riding a KTM 690 Enduro R or KTM 790 Adventure R, and for on-road tours only, there is the option of riding a BMW R1200GS. All motorcycle rentals demand a refundable Warranty Damage Deposit, up to €1.500,00 per motorcycle, depending on the model. The warranty damage deposit is to be paid (wire-transferred) to the bank account of the tour operator prior to the trip and will be fully refunded after the motorcycle gets inspected and shows no mechanical or cosmetical damage caused by the rider.

CAN I JOIN WITH MY OWN MOTORCYCLE?

This is possible only in Custom Tours and you will have to contact us. In any case, any adventure or dual-sport motorcycle riding in our tours must be road registered, carry a license plate, be equipped with DOT-certified knobby tires, and have a fuel range of a minimum of 240 km.

DO MYTHICAL ROUTES HAVE A TRAVEL INSURANCE?

Book with confidence, Mythical Routes tours are covered with Tour Operator Liability according to EU Directives, but participants are required to have health and accident insurance that could also cover transportation back to their home country. Insurance documents must be presented upon demand. We recommend that all our customers check what their home insurance covers. Some insurances have a cancellation cover that covers the entire amount or part of it. Note that under Greek law any vehicle used on unpaved and off-road trails is not covered by any insurance, and the rider is entirely responsible for any damage caused to the motorcycle he is riding and any other person or vehicle he might crash.

WHAT ARE THE RIDER'S LIABILITY TERMS?

The customer is liable in any case for all personal injuries and damage to property caused by his/her intentional misconduct or negligence and shall indemnify and hold Mythical Routes harmless against all third-party claims asserted directly on Mythical Routes in connection with such injuries and/or damage. Damage caused by a customer's intentional misconduct or negligence means in particular (but is not limited to) damage attributable to driving mistakes, lack of driving ability, and/or disorderly driving behavior (for instance, driving on the back wheel making a racing start or failing to comply with safety spaces between vehicles).

WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?

You can withdraw from the travel contract at any time prior to the commencement of the journey. Due to the nature of the travel industry, the tour operator is entitled to lump-sum indemnities considering normally saved expenses and possible other utilization of the travel services. For the complete cancellation policy, please visit our Terms of Participation.

MOTORCYCLE TOUR GRADING

L.1 EASY

Image

Easy tours (Level 1) are accessible to most people with an average level of fitness and average mobility. We ride asphalt-paved roads in fair condition and at normal altitudes. On certain routes, we ride on coastal or mountain roads that are easily accessible, with varying landscapes, but we may also have to travel on easy dirt roads (less than 5% of the tour) or at high altitudes with varying weather conditions for a few days. We ride up to 6 hours/day on most days and you must be comfortable handling a 200 kg motorcycle. Tours may involve sightseeing on foot, some climbing of stairs, and getting on and off ferries.

L.2 INTERMEDIATE

Image

Intermediate tours (Level 2) require a higher level of fitness since we ride asphalt-paved roads and slate-paved paths, but for the most part of the route we ride challenging roads and gravel roads in various conditions, depending on the weather. There are no single tracks and we ride for more than 6 hours/day for the most part of the tour. You must have some experience in off-road riding and must be comfortable handling a 200 kg motorcycle. Tours can include longer periods of sightseeing and easy walking. High altitude and overnight adventure camps may feature.

L.3 HARD

Image

Hard tours (Level 3) require advanced riding abilities and a good level of fitness, as they are physically more demanding. We ride asphalt-paved roads and slate-paved paths, but for the most part of the route, we ride challenging gravel roads at high altitudes with varying weather conditions. River crossings and single tracks may feature. We ride for more than 8 hours/day for the most part of the tour and night riding may feature. You must be an experienced rider and ride off-road regularly. Tours may involve hiking to remote, high-altitude areas where facilities are less developed and overnight adventure camps may feature.

Liability Disclaimer: The route grading system has been compiled in good faith. It is the participants’ responsibility to choose a route level that is appropriate for them, depending on their experience and skills. In any event, our specialized staff will help you choose the perfect route for you.
